OLED is not a new tech now. It’s been many years since we first saw the OLED, famous for its absolute blacks and vibrant colors.
OLED is being used extensively in the mobile phones now and it’s quite possible that in future, we find only OLED screens [ also called Super AMOLED by samsung ] on all the phones.
OLED TVs were also introduced years ago but due to the high pricing, not everybody were able to afford these awesome TVs but the prices are coming down these days and you can start thinking of getting an OLED for your home.
But before buying, you must be having thousands of questions. This article is meant for you only.
OLED TVs offer you the same quality as we find in phones with OLED Screens.
This article is specifically written for the people who are in a dilemma whether to go for OLED which is higher in price or stick to the traditional LEDs.
For example, we’ll take LG C2 2022 series TV.
Here we’ll focus more on the practical experience rather than filling you in with the theoretical aspects.
WHAT IS AN OLED TV?
We won’t discuss the tech here but only the points which are necessary in the new buyers’ perspective.
OLED GOES FOR ORGANIC LIGHT EMITTING DIODES.
OLED contains organic part and has self contained LEDs on the pixel basis. OLEDs contain organic compounds which gives it its name.
OLED gives individual lighting for every pixel which gives it capability to switch it completely off, resulting in perfect blacks. Other colors also are totally awesome on OLED.
WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF LG OLED?
LG OLED or OLED has many benefits over the conventional LED/LCD Tv.
Some of them are as follows:
- Perfect Blacks. The blacks are so black that if black color is on the screen, one won’t be able to tell whether tv is on or off. Perfect black means infinite contrast ratio.
- Pure Colors. The colors are pure without any infusion of whitish tone which we find sometimes on traditional LCD/LED TVs.
- Vribrant colors: The colors are very beautiful and pure. OLED , naturally produces very vibrant colors due to the fact that it has its own individual backlight source which helps to give each pixel a separate level of color making the shades look almost perfect.
- Viewing Angles: There is no dimming of the screen when you move away in the direction while watching your favorite show on OLED TV. It means you can watch it on any angle. If you have many TVs hanging, you can figure out easily which one is OLED as it’ll be the brightest.
- No Harmful Chemicals: There are no harmful chemical used while the manufacturing of OLED. So it is greener than other techs.
- Thickness: Thickness of OLED screen is incredibly less. It is just few mm thick. Yes support structure is given which gives it some thickness at the bottom to accommodate speakers, different jacks for USB, HDMI, optical outputs and other standard INs and OUTs for a TV.
WHAT SIZE OF LG OLED IS APPROPRIATE FOR ME?
It is very important to choose the size of the OLED cautiously to get the most out your new OLED.
One should never go for the biggest screen as possible but you should first of all check the size of the space where you want to use the tv. Is it your living room, or a hall or bedroom?
The ideal size of TV to be chosen is recommended to be atleast 3 times the size of the screen which means if you choose for 48″ TV i.e. 4 feet, your watching distance from the TV should be like around 12 feet. The TV will be as good to watch from the nearer distances too but it’ll create stress to your eyes and you won’t be able to watch it for longer hours.
Of course, by the virtue of OLED, it is comparatively less Stress-Creating to eyes than traditional LCDs/LEDs.`
DIFFERENT SPECIFICATIONS OF OLED TV
OLED is simply a display tech and you need not worry about its specifications. Rest of the specifications will be similar to the standard TV. Even then we’ll discuss a few which are being featured with OLEDs.
Size: The size of the OLED is measured diagonally. The size should be chosen as per the space where you are going to put in your OLED TV.
WHAT IS THE ADEQUATE SCREEN RESOLUTION FOR OLED TV?
SCREEN RESOLUTION: TV screen or any digital screen is made up of small squares known as pixels. These pixel show a single color at one time. When seen from a distance, different pixels set the colors in such a way that we see the visuals. Now, it is very clear that more the pixels, clearer the picture is. So, for a TV like 43 inchese or more, atleast 4K is recommended. 4K resolution is 3840 x 2160 pixels , i.e. 3840 pixels for the length or horizontal size and 2160 pixels for the height or breadth or vertical size of the TV. This resolution is also known as ULTRA HD or 2160p.
Ultra HD resolution is exactly double in the size of FULL HD Resolution which is 1920×1080 pixels.
WHAT IS REFRESH RATE ? HOW DOES IT MATTER?
Refresh Rate: The screen we see is made on the screen a specific number of times every second. This is called as Refresh Rate. Refresh rate ensures the smoothness of the screen. If the scene is moving too fast and the TV is having lower refresh rate, it’ll show the flicker as the time screen reproduces the screen again, the moving object will suddenly be at another position. Higher the refresh rate, more smooth the motion is.
WHAT IS TRUMOTION, MOTION FLOW OR X MOTION?
TRUMOTION / MOTION FLOW/ X MOTION; This kind of terms are used by the brands to show the TECH where it produces extra frames and insert them between the real frames to make the motion smoother. Higher the number with these terms , smoother the motion is. Sometimes brands use like MotionFlow 100, MotionFlow 200 etc. 200 denotes a better performance for this task.
HOW BRIGHT IS OLED TV?
Brightness Level: The brightness level of OLED is quite good. It’ll perform good in the daylight and would be able to remove the reflections on the screen.
HOW IS THE SOUND OUTPUT OF OLED TV?
SOUND OUTPUT: Most of the TVs are having a sound output of 10W+10W from the two speakers given at the bottom of the TV. So this 20W output is good enough for a room of up to 15ft by 15ft. Bigger room needs additional speaker system. The quality from these small speakers can be decent but not very spectacular. The brands try to process the sound to create them better but practically they are just enough to enjoy the TV in a standard way i.e. not something special when it comes to the sound part. The equalizers, preset audio outputs are also not much performing to make your audio listening from the TV, a special experience.
All of these don’t mean that sound output is bad, but yes it is not great but OK.
After we discussed the general information, let us discuss precise details about LG C2 OLED model.

Even after so many detailed reviews, there were a lot of questions which I couldn’t find answers to about the latest series of LG OLED C2 series.
So, I have put all such questions in one by one questionnaire to provide you the answer.
Let us answer some of your one line questions.
WHAT IS THE LEAST SIZE LG OLED C2 SERIES IS AVAILABLE?
LG C2 series has the least size of 42″ [ inches ]. Other available sizes are 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″ and 83″.
WHAT IS BURN IN PROBLEM IN LG OLED C2 TV?
BURN IN or IMAGE RETENTION is one and the same thing.
Burn in or Image Retention means that even after the image of the screen has changed, few pixels will show the same portion of the previous picture.
Suppose we have put a stable image on the screen e.g. fruits on the table and this picture is stable for many hours. Now it happens that even when we change the picture, apple will still be on the screen even after the picture change.
Initially when OLED TVs were launched , this issue was seen in some TVs but only in the condition where there was some static image on the TV for extended duration. [ These static images can be logos of channels etc. ] Under normal conditions, it doesn’t happen in our households. We always do change the channels time to time.
But, when this issue emerged, there were different techniques developed by the brands to avoid this issue such as , auto shifting of the image after some interval, switching off the tv after a certain time, pixel refreshing to avoid pixel sticking issue etc. We’ll discuss them briefly further in this article.
Conclusion is, if we rely on the various informative sources available on the internet, reviews, claims made by LG itself, the real experience of few of our knowns , LG OLED is perfectly safe about burn in just like another TVs. It means that burn in can take place but the chances are as likely as the other TVs only. It is not a specific problem of OLED only but all TVs.
SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT OLED BURN IN OR IMAGE RETENTION ISSUE IS HYPED BY LG'S RIVALS AS NOT MANY BRANDS ARE DEALING IN OLED WHICH OFFERS YOU THE PERFECT PICTURE QUALITY AS OF NOW. USERS GET SIMPLY ATTRACTED TOWARDS THE OLED DUE TO ITS PERFCTION AND IT IS GETTING MORE LOVE WHEN THE PRICES TOO ARE GOING DOWN. IT SIMPLY POSES A THREAT TO THE OTHER MANUFACTURERS.
LG also declared that the age of their OLED is 100 000 hours which means that you can use your tv 91 years if you watch it for 3 hours a day. Previously this claim was for 30 000 hours.
So, even if we deny such high values, we can confidently say that at least our panel is going to last for 5-10 years without any defect. [ Ofcourse the numbers given are for the panel i.e. screen only. It doesn’t count for other issues which might arise due to various factors].
One more supporting fact with LG is that they give 3 years warranty in offer which they launch from time to time. So, if a brand is having confidence in its product, we can show confidence in the brand too.
DOES LG COVERS BURN IN OR IMAGE RETENTION IN OLED TVS UNDER ITS WARRANTY?
This is very complicated point and even after many tries, a satisfactory answer couldn’t be found. It depends upon the LG policy and needs to be confirmed with the service center in your area.
The pixel issues are governed by PIXEL POLICY of the brand. This policy defines the number of pixels after which the panel will be considered for replacement. As of now it is 6 [ May please verify once from LG PIXEL POLICY] i.e. panel will be considered defective if 6 or more pixels are dead or defective.
