HOW TO USE LEFT FUNCTION IN EXCEL?

Many times while working in Excel, we come across a situation where we have a long text, but the useful content comprises of only a few letters in the left portion of the word. If this portion is needed to be trimmed for one row, it can be easily done manually but what if the number of rows is above hundred?

Excel gives us a function named “LEFT” for such cases. The next section of the page will show you the format of the function.

HOW TO USE LEFT FUNCTION?

  • Select the cell where result is needed.
  • Put the formula =LEFT(cell address with string, number of letters to be kept, counted from the left).
  •  Press Enter.
  • The result will appear as the only letters fulfilling the condition.
