HOW TO DELETE SHEETS IN EXCEL ?

“SHEET” IS A SUB-GROUP OF ANY WORKBOOK .

SHEETS ARE THE DIFFERENT WORKING AREAS BUT IN THE SAME WORKBOOK OR FILE.

SHEETS CAN BE USED TO CLASSIFY THE DATA OR KEEP THE GROUPS DIFFERENT.

BUTTON LOCATION FOR DELETION OF SHEETS, COLUMNS OR ROWS IN EXCEL

The buttons or options for the deletion of sheets, columns or rows is found under the HOME TAB under CELLS subsection as shown in the picture below.

STEPS TO DELETE SHEETS IN EXCEL

The sheets can be deleted in the following manner.

STEPS:

Be on the sheet which you want to delete. [You can select the sheet from the bottom tabs as shown in the picture below.]

SELECT THE SHEET TO BE DELETED
  • Go to HOME TAB > CELLS SUBSECTION > DELETE DROPDOWN > DELETE SHEET as shown in the picture below.

The active sheet will be deleted.

SELECT HOME TAB> CELLS > DELETE> DELETE SHEET

You can delete the current sheet by pressing ALT + H + D + S.

STEPS TO DELETE CELLS IN EXCEL

Cells is the basic entity of a sheet.

If we specifically want to delete certain cells only, we can use this option.

STEPS:

  • Select the cells to be deleted.
  • Open the option under tab HOME>CELLS>DELETE.
  • CLICK Delete Cells.
  • Following dialog box will be opened.
SELECT HOME TAB > CELLS SECTION >DELETE > DELETE CELLS
  • Following dialog box will be opened.
CHOOSE THE ACTION OF REST OF THE CELLS/ROWS
  • Choose the action to be performed on rest of the cells when Selected Cells are deleted.
  • SHIFT CELLS LEFT: Delete the selected cells and shift rest of the cells to the left.
  • SHIFT CELLS UP: Delete the selected cells and shift rest of the cells upwards .
  • ENTIRE ROW: Delete the entire row of the selected cells.
  • ENTIRE COLUMN: Delete the entire column of the selected cells.

PLEASE READ ME!!!!!!!!!!

ALWAYS BE CAREFUL BEFORE DELETION OF ROWS AND COLUMNS AS IT WON’T ASK THE USER BEFORE DELETING AND ALL THE COLUMNS AND ROWS OF THE SELECTED CELLS WILL BE DELETED EVEN IF THERE IS DATA ON REST OF THE CELLS OF THOSE CELLS OR NOT.

Select the cells to be deleted.

You can delete the selected cells by pressing ALT + H + D + D

The dialog box shown above will follow and rest of the procedure is same.

STEPS TO DELETE COLUMNS IN EXCEL

Refer to the picture below.

STEPS:

  • SELECT the column to be deleted.
  • Go to HOME>CELLS>DELETE.
  • Click DELETE SHEET COLUMNS.
  • The Selected column will be deleted.
  • Rest of the columns to the right of the deleted column will  be shifted leftwards.

Select the column to be deleted.

You can delete the selected columns by pressing ALT + H + D + C

STEPS TO DELETE ROWS IN EXCEL

Refer to the picture below.

STEPS:

  • SELECT the row/rows to be deleted.
  • Go to HOME>CELLS>DELETE.
  • Click DELETE SHEET ROWS.
  • The Selected rows will be deleted.
  • Rest of the rows below the selected row/rows will be shifted upwards.

Select the Rows to be deleted.

You can delete the selected rows by pressing ALT + H + D + R
